2. Justification for the selected thrust area:
ABMSP’s APCOER TBI decided to work on “Precision and Smart Agro Engineering Instruments and
Equipments”, as already many researchers are working sustainable solution in the field of Agriculture
Technology.
Currently large number of agri-machinery products are being imported and sold in Indian market. Farmers
are still working with traditional methods and instrument which are inefficient and require more efforts. With
advancement in technology in the field of artificial intelligence, machine learning, IOT, robotics and data
science, there is a wide scope to support the farmers and local industries MSMEs to boost the local economy.
Rapidly expanding mechanization of agriculture is creating large scope for new businesses to develop agri
machinery and IOT based solutions to farmers. In providing these solutions students, entrepreneurs, start-ups
and MSMEs can play a vital role. However, it is required to bring all these stakeholders together to form an
innovation ecosystem. Technology business incubator can connect all these stakeholders and helps in boosting
the local economy. The proposed incubator would focus on promoting start-ups in this business space and
provide support for innovation to meet typical Indian agriculture needs. The institute is surrounded by many
industrial clusters MSMEs, viz, Parvati Industrial estate, Katraj MIDC, Dhayari MIDC in the periphery of 15
Km. These MSMEs are contributing in providing local employment which helps to grow the local economy.
However, they are facing lot of problems related to innovation ecosystem, facilities, mentoring, skilled
manpower, technology transfer services etc. The institute has the potential to address to all these issues and
its biggest strength is innovative students, industry connect and faculties. The proposed Technology business
incubator can act as an economic development tool to promote growth through innovation, and application of
technology. The Institute has very good connect with farmers to understand their problems. Institute is already
working on a Agronet project, which aims at giving distance education to farmers. Through collaboration
with Sakal Papers, institute is connected with 4 lakh farmers and providing them the solutions using AI-NLP
technology through a mobile app. The students and faculties are currently working on many agricultural
projects like strawberry crop monitoring, crop disease detection, IOT base project related to measurement of
parameters of weather, soil, nutrients, seeds etc. Institute has also developed a drone for remote operated
insecticide spray and a polyhouse structure in college premises. Institute has developed a mechanized IOT
based greenhouse structure and a Gantry robot on the campus. Focus of the incubator is “Engineering for
Agriculture” To develop instruments, equipment for agriculture with the help of local industry to boost the
local economy focusing on improving the living standard of framers and supporting the MSMEs to grow their
business.
